The following pictures where taken at the LDMFA
field and at the Valley Radio Flyers in Shepparton, Victoria (Australia) during 1995/96
and scanned by George Rizol of Inet
Graphics.
North American T28 Trojans
This spectacular pair of T-28's was photographed at the
Shepparton 1994 Mammoth Scale Fly-in. At the time of this photo, they had not yet taken to
the air for their maiden flight. Apparently there was some trouble with gaining large
model certification. See Full
Size Aviation Page for the aircraft that the front T-28 is modeled on.
Gee Bee Racer
Also photographed at Shepparton 94, This very large model
is a great example of the infamous 1930's speed machine. In it's full size configuration,
not much more than a large thumping radial engine with just enough wing to keep it in the
air, all 3 original aircraft built finally crashed killed their pilots.
Mc Donnell Douglas f-15 Eagle
This model has 2 ducted fan engines. Quite something when
they're both screaming at maximum revs! Such a large model with retractable landing gear
in the up position, looks very realistic in the air. Photographed at Shepparton
94.
North American F-86 Sabre
This model was photographed at Lilydale at one of our
display days. "9502 Full size versions built, The prototype flew in 1947, the result
of American engineering genius, combined with German wartime research on swept wings"
(Hamlyn Guide to Military Aircraft Markings).
Corsair F4U-1
Always a popular aircraft, this Corsair F4U-1 is a real
eyecatcher. A Byron Original Kit owned and built by Les Briscoe, (L.D.M.F.A. member)
features Byron retract system, a modified Sachs-Dolmar 70cc engine with CD ignition,
swinging a byron 3 blade prop. Radio is a Futaba 9 Ch. FM and finish is acrylic. 55"
Span and a weight of 11.5kg. (Description - Airbourne Magazine.) A similar picture of this
very aircraft was a cover shot for issue 140 Feb 1996.
