There is a scale competition/event, in the United States called the US Scale Masters. Similar to the Masters Golf competition, the competitors must qualify by competing in regional scale contests all across the Country. Placing high in these contests, qualifies the contestants to attend the US Scale Masters.

Each year the event is hosted by a different city. Dayton Ohio was the host of the 2000 Scale Masters event. Some may remember that the Wright brothers started their experiment with flight in Dayton.

The Wright–Patterson Air Force base provided the setting for this contest. The middle of October is the time. One week before this date, the city of Dayton had snow flurries. Many of the organizers were very worried that the contest may be cancelled.

What a difference a week makes. The temperatures were in the high 60's to low 70's °F and the skies were clear. Fall was in full effect with many trees changing color day by day.

The first day of the event was dedicated to the static judging of the aircraft. Since there were over 70 entries, the judging took the entire day. All the aircraft are presented for static evaluation, which include the proper outline, matching colors of the full-scale aircraft, as well as the documentation provided by each contestant. Once this phase is complete, the scores are totaled. The next step is to judge flight maneuvers - this took place the following 3 day.
